Ever want to learn how to make your own books? – those ones with the cool stitching on the spine that lie flat when you open them? Artist extraordinaire and organizer at Youth for Chinese Seniors, Chanel Ly, can teach you how! Please join us for a 2 and a half hour bookbinding workshop.
Space is limited and we are able to accommodate up to 8 participants. You are best to RSVP in advance via Eventbrite. The full cost of the workshop is $40.00 but because we are committed to inclusivity and accessibility we’ve included a sliding scale option. Please pay what you can. Supplies will be provided (included in the price of registration).
Chanel Ly is first generation Chinese Vietnamese born and raised on Coast Salish Territories. She has been binding journals and sketchbooks for a couple of years for family and friends. Knowing that her books will be filled with art, poetry, and other scribbles is very rewarding. Her bookbinding frenzy started with a workshop led by Suzanne Lee at the Purple Thistle, a dearly missed youth arts drop-in centre that closed in 2015. She spends most of her time hanging out with Chinese seniors in the Downtown Eastside as an outreach worker.
