After the COVID-19 crisis hit Canada, The WePress Collective stopped running in person art making activities such as workshops and open studio drop ins, in order to protect our community and the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver.
Instead, we began to provide essential services to support DTES communities. WePress community kitchen has been providing 200 hot meals 5 days a week since June to the DTES community. We distribute our meals to people at Aboriginal Front Door, Vancouver Area Network of Drug Users, Overdose Prevention Society, Western Aboriginal Harm Reduction Society, and Strathcona Park. The kitchen employs artists, activists, and workers who live-in or have relationships with the Downtown Eastside. We belong to a the DTES Community Kitchen Network (DECK). The Tyee covered the work of the DECK Network in December.
Donate to WePress to keep our kitchen running as long as possible.
